In http://www.schoolsafety.us/, they give some problems in the course of actions taken when the Virginia Tech shootings occured.  They also give ways in which to improve those problems so that such a tragedy may never happen again.  This article is geared more towards colleges but I think it is very helpful and the ideas could be applied to schools of all levels.

In this article: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/287453_schoolsecurity04.html it explains what one school in Seattle did in response to the several shootings that have been occuring.  They give an overview of plans that they put into action and also what parents can do to help out.

In this news article: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216963,00.html they talk about school shootings and how the Columbine tragedy brought about changes in school safety.  This is more related to history, but I found it interesting and helpful.
